Single Mom of two, Josh (19) and Ellie (7)! I currently am helping to take care of my handicapped/disabled Mom and keep an eye on my Dad, so I'm at home alot. My family also includes, 3 dogs, 4 rats and 6 chinchillas!
This year I discovered Ball-Jointed Dolls! This has been the neatest thing that has come into my life.
In the past, I never really liked dolls much. Dolls were either horrid to play with (not very posable) or they were ones you couldn't play with (collector's items to sit on a shelf), so they didn't attract me. I collected Model Horses.
After being shown a photo of a BJD on a friend of my sister's LJ page, I got curious and spent the next two weeks doing research. By the end of those two weeks, I was hooked.
As much as I loved my model horses, I was tired of having them boxed up and in storage. They'd been there for the past 7 years. I made the decision to put them up for sale on eBay. It was a hard decision. At first, I sold only a few, and not my favorites. With that money, I bought my first BJD - an RanD Angel Karen. I thought she would probably be the only BJD I'd ever own.
Then a few more horses sold, and I bought a 27cm Obitsu Marrone, and a few heads to practice faceups on! Then I sold some more horses, and purchased a pre-owned DZ Xi. Then I was really hooked!
I decided I could make clothes to sell for them and earn some more money that way. So I began sewing for the dolls. I sold some clothes, and some more horses and purchased an Obitsu 60cm Gretel. Then I sold some more horses and purchased my only brand new, factory face up BJD - AOD Liu Yin!
From there, it was down hill! LOL! I've been fortunate enough to sell either doll clothes or model horses to enable me to gather a few more BJD's. Unfortunately, I'm almost out of model horses! I'm keeping half a dozen of them that I just CAN'T part with - but all the rest have been sold!
The dolls take up far less space, AND I can have them out and play with them!
But you know what? The best part about all of this is that I can share this hobby with my daughter! She loves the dolls as much as I do! She inspires me to make the right clothes, checks my face ups and generally has as much fun as I do!
I hope that here, I can find some more friends! Besides the one that I have already aquired through other lists and forums! What a wonderful world this has become for me!
